4-H & Youth Development Program

Members

You may hear that 4-H is for kids who live on farms. That was true in the past but now there are 4-H clubs all over the country, many in urban cities like El Paso.

Today's 4-H'ers are boys and girls between 9-19 years old. Some live on farms and some in suburban neighborhoods and in cities. They join 4-H because it's fun! 4-H provides opportunities to work and play with friends, to learn about and do interesting things and develop leadership skills.

Learn by Doing

The 4-H method is learn by doing. Members learn by completing 4-H projects. A project is an area of interest or topic that the 4-H'er wants to learn about.

Clubs participate in community service projects and other special activities for members. 4-H'ers learn leadership skills by participating in club planning, by being officers in their clubs, and older 4-H'ers act as teen leaders by assisting adult volunteers with projects and activities for younger members.

Every year, members are eligible for camps, contests, conferences and special events for 4-H'ers sponsored by the county, district, state and national 4-H organizations. 4-H events sponsors trips to Japan and Europe for those with international interests.

All 4-H activities are designed for learning by doing, but they are also designed to be fun.
