Camp Overview

The camp is located in the rugged Lincoln Mountains of Southern New Mexico. The semi-primitive camp is located at a high altitude. The altitude is a factor for the need to protect yourself from the sun (sun screen/hats). It also can affect medical conditions or add additional stress to normal healthy individuals. It can be hot during the day, cool at night and rain at any time. Generally, the temperature in the Cloudcroft area is about 20°F less (day and night time) than El Paso, Sierra Blanca, and Van Horn.

The camp is remotely located in the Lincoln National Forest. No telephone service exists at the camp. Electricity and running water are modern conveniences. Lodging is in cabin/barracks with bunk beds and mattresses. A separate central bath house provides showers, sinks, and toilets. A combination dining-activity hall provides all meals from a modern kitchen. The camp setting is on a mountain side and includes many stairs or uneven grounds. Caution is made to all that running and horseplay can be dangerous.

A wide variety of wildlife can be seen around the camp. Bears are possible but seldom found. Forest fires are a potential hazard.
