Horticulture and Gardening

The El Paso County office of Texas AgriLife Extension Service, in cooperation with The Texas Forest Service, annually offers a windbreak seedling sale.  Orders are normally taken from October through January and trees arrive in early February.

Seedlings of both evergreen and hardwood trees are available and only trees that are recommended for the El Paso area are sold. The list of available trees and shrubs varies slightly from year to year, but there are usually around 20 single species to choose from (sold in packets of 30 to 50 trees).

Packets of mixed species to attract wildlife are also available and contain 100 seedlings (25 each of four different species).

Prices range from $34 to $58.  The deadline to order trees is usually around January 20 and trees normally arrive about three weeks later.

When this program is being offered, during the fall of 2006, more information and an order form will be available for download from this page.

For more information, or to be placed on the mailing list to receive an order packet when available, please contact AgriLife Extension at (915) 851-2515

You may also check the Texas Forest Service website for more information on windbreak trees.
